Tarminuus Redesign

Tarminuus features the work of indie sci-fi / fantasy writer Michael Robertson. The site didn’t play well with mobile / tablet screens - increasingly where people are doing their reading - so he asked me to create a new, more responsive design.

My goal was to provide a comfortable reading experience across all platforms which led to reconsidering the site’s typography (originally Arial, now mobile-friendly Droid Serif) and colour scheme: once high-contrast green, white and black; now a much more low-key black on very light gray with a subdued background. (That’s BBC-official Pantone 2955C TARDIS blue, fact fans.)

The original site, mocked up with ami.responsivedesign.is

The redesigned site

I originally used Garamond for the bookish vibe I was going for (see: Penguin Classics Gil Sans for the headings) but upon testing it wasn't very readable on mobile, Droid Serif was an excellent substitute
